Nearly Nude

Is nude a good look for everyone?  I’m not entirely convinced that it makes an effective impact on all skin tones.  Just imagining the masses of Hong Kongers walking around in nude shades makes me want to cringe.  Well, I guess everyone will need to address this spring trend at their own discretion…to each his (her) own!

I went to H&M this afternoon and bought these cute ballet flats (99HKD…roughly $12).  They’re the perfect shade of ballerina pink and you’d never guess that they’re not made from real leather.  Come to think of it, I should get a back-up pair for when these eventually get scuffed and fall apart.

Alexa Chung’s interpretation of nude neutrals.  I think she’s the bee’s-knees!

If only Olivia Palermo were a nice person…I’d be her number one fan.  Like anything else she wears, she looks gorgeous in nude.

I don’t know much about Kate Bosworth except that once upon a time she dated Orlando Bloom, got scary thin and wears more nude than anyone else on this planet. Aside from all that, I just love how dainty and nymph-like she is!

Ladylike Lace

Does white lace ever go out of style?  I think lace sometimes feels too bridal or too much like lingerie to be worn casually.   Although, I do vaguely remember wearing a lot of lace when I was a kid (à la Madonna…lace tights, lace gloves, lace dresses, lace shoes).  I can picture myself dressing down the delicate, ladylike quality of white lace by pairing it with something much more sensible, like a good pair of skinny jeans. Looks like I’m in luck, as there seems to be a lot of lace floating around this spring.

I bought these Maloles ballet flats a while back but haven’t had a chance to wear they.  I’m partly waiting for warmer weather to break in these lace slippers but, really, I haven’t figured out what to wear them with.  It’s so difficult planning an outfit around shoes!

Alexa Chung is too cool for school.  I love how she brings an edgy contrast to all this dainty lace.

Olivia Palermo’s one of those girls you just love to hate, especially after her rather scheming and sly portrayal on The City …but, there’s no denying that the girl’s got great style.

Dizzy Dots

Do you see what I see?  I’m currently experiencing a very idle stage in my life, hence the blogging, so I spend quite a chunk of time frequenting the shopping districts of HK and lately it seems that I’m seeing spots everywhere I go!  I’ve never been a big fan of polka dots, but I’m learning to appreciate their ditzy quality.  Come to think of it, Julia Roberts was the picture of perfection wearing that polka dot dress and matching hat in ‘Pretty Woman.’  So, who knows, maybe I will succumb to this dizzying trend after all.

Alexa Chung (model/tv host/journalist/fashion icon) obviously loves polka dots.

A subtle way to incorporate some quirky dots into your home.

And…a not so subtle way.  I wonder what happens when the paint starts to chip away.  Well, in any case, the children certainly look pleased.
